Senior Packaging & Productivity Technologist

The Senior Packaging & Productivity Technologist is a key role in the Shepparton Shared Resource R&D Team.  They work directly with the Meals & Beverage Business Team, OneAsia and Shepparton Site to deliver all packaging aspects of innovation and cost saving projects.  Reporting directly to the Sr. R&D Manger, you will also be a valuable member of the R&D organization.   Product categories include stock, soup and beverages to be developed and produced at the Shepparton Site.  


You will need packaging experience in development for consumer-packaged goods, innovation, commercialisation and launch into the market.  You will need to be comfortable with working in a cross functional team across the region and contributing in a wide variety of initiatives.  You will be responsible for the hands-on development and guiding your team to execute projects in collaboration with the pilot plant, thermal scientists and product development.   


You must be a scientific thinker, with a curiosity for understanding thermal processing and ability to develop and execute experimental design-based research.  The role will require you to work effectively with cross-functional partners (Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Marketing, Consumer Insights and Product Development) to ensure the delivery of business results.  Strategic relationships with partners and stakeholders will be crucial, as well as strong communication and influencing skills. A collaborative working style will help you succeed in this role.   


Key Accountabilities:


ANZ and OneAsia M&B Business Teams: 

  • Develop, technically approve, and commercialize packaging for current and future year innovations 

  • Support and coordinate all relevant trials and ensure all projects are documented and systems are updated 

  • Maintain packaging systems (specifications, artwork, bill of materials, etc.) 

  • Collaborate with Program Managers  

  • Partner with our packaging vendors  


Supply Chain Support: 

  • Support supply chain and procurement initiatives including product transfers 

  • Partner with Shepparton Plant to solve critical issues and troubleshooting of manufacturing of new and existing products  

  • Minimize disruption to production due to continuation of supply problems 


Technical Support and People Leadership: 

  • Manage one Associate Technologist in delivery of product and pack projects 

  • Work with multiple stakeholders to prioritise work and projects 

  • Ensure the accuracy and availability of raw material specifications, recipes, bills of materials, product manuals, finished product specifications, ingredient lists, nutritional information and label information 

  • Maintain a safe working environment by participating in workplace safety 

  • Provide leadership, coaching, performance management and development opportunities to team members 


Ingredients for success:

  • Degree qualified (Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or Food Science desirable). 

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in R&D, Food Technology, QA and Supply chain with thermally processes, products and packs 

  • Technical knowledge of packaging technology and materials 

  • Hands on product development work, formulation, and commercialisation  

  • Labelling and regulatory requirement knowledge  

  • Label development software, SAP and other system experience 

  • Understanding of OHS and plant safety requirements 

  • Creativity and a passion for food and science 



  • Solid record of delivering outcomes that have added value to the business  

  • Proven ability to deal with ambiguity and build strong relationships with varied stakeholders   

  • Good interpersonal skills along with good verbal and written communication skills   

  • Project management skills with a focus on commercial acumen and strategic agility
